God desires a relationship with You. It’s the very reason why He allowed His only begotten Son to die for your sins. He loves you so much and wants to have a one on one relationship with you, helping you every step of the way in your life. Many people believe that this type of relationship is reserved for Pastors, evangelists and those in position of authority in church. I used to think this way. I truly believed that only certain people were allowed to have a closeness with God and hear from Him and be able to translate His directions in their lives and others. I felt like all I could do was try my best and set my heart to do my best towards His commandments. I was very wrong. God is not a respecter of persons. He doesn’t desire a closer relationship with one person over another. He desires for all of us to come to Him and to be in an intimate relationship with Him. This is accomplished through prayer and constant communication with the Father.
We have discussed the fact that establishing a life of prayer is not easy to do. One has to make it up in his/her heart that everyday you have to set time apart for Him so that you can communicate your needs and your feelings with Him. This is not always easy as many are parents and employed. When you get done with work, it’s time to cook dinner and help with homework. You have housework and you have to do things to take care of yourself and your children. Prayer can seem tedious and extremely frustrating when you have stress going on in your life. It’s sometimes easy just to go to sleep at night or sleep in during the morning before work vs. get out of the bed and get into a prayer closet to talk to God about our lives.
Nevertheless, we must prioritize time with God as we do anything else. It is necessary in order to maintain a relationship with Him. Imagine if you had a boyfriend or girlfriend but they never talked to you. Imagine that person expressing their love for you when you are in front of others, but when it is time to spend intimate time together, they are never present. You see them perhaps on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram laughing and engaging with everyone but you. How would you feel? It probably wouldn’t feel much like you are in a relationship with that person because they don’t place you as a priority in their life. Even with theme expressing the love that they have for you when you are around crowds of people, it wouldn’t mean as much as them being with you during your private time. Your love for that person would be more of an aching for their attention than it would be 2 people growing together and loving each other the way any relationship should be.
This is exactly what we do to God when we fail to put our prayer time with Him first. We will go through unnecessary pain and suffering that He is able to heal. We will suffer from distress that shouldn’t be a part of our lives when we are His children. He is our very present help in time of trouble. We need Him like a plant needs the sun, like a fish needs water. We were created for Him and to be with Him. He is our life source. This is why we need to be with Him. A life of prayer would be beneficial in every way in our lives as well as those around us. A life of prayer is how I have been able to counsel so many people all over the world. Prayer changes you and those people around you. Prayer is the missing key in the lives of so many believers.
If you are suffering from loneliness or anxiety, if you are feeling separated from God, try prayer. It will mend your broken heart. Although it seems like a chore that interferes with our sleep schedule and takes a tremendous amount of work and dedication, I promise you it will be worth it. Your outlook on life and the obstacles we face will change drastically. Your love and patience will increase greatly. Your friends and family will be able to be covered in the life of your prayer. Your peace will increase and your time spent in prayer will become easier and easier guaranteed. All you have to do is set up your heart and set aside the time for prayer. God will bless you abundantly for your sacrifice of time.
